The 13th Annual Clarendon Day will be held this Saturday, September 25th (11 am- 5 pm).  The event features a 10k/5k/Kids Dash, live music, food, vendors and kids activities. This year’s event will be the largest yet because it will include Virginia Hospital Center’s Family Fun Day. Since the Family Fun Day always coincided with Clarendon Day, they have decided to combine their events. Booths from various health related agencies and nonprofits will line Clarendon Boulevard, and the hospital will host a day’s worth of health screenings and  live fitness classes, including body sculpting, belly dancing, yoga for babies and zumba.

These are in addition to the annual events usually found on Clarendon Day. There will be live music on the IOTA stage; food stands from over 15 restaurants including Rockland’s Barbeque, Hard Times, Whitlow’s, Lyon Hall and many others; a burrito eating contest, sponsored by Mexicali Blues, at 3 pm; and tons of vendors. Remy, most famous for his “Arlington Rap”, will also be performing at 4:15 pm.

For the kids, the Kinder Haus Kid’s Stage will offer several shows on a dedicated stage offering storytelling and puppeteers. The kids show starts at 1 pm. There will also be face painting, temporary tattoo’s and much more!

The festival encompasses a number of blocks surrounding the Clarendon Metro.

See you there!

Whitlow’s on Wilson is Adding a Rooftop Deck

ARL.now is reporting that Whitlow’s on Wilson is expanding- upward! The restaurant, located in Clarendon, has just received a permit to construct a rooftop deck that will be able to accommodate up to 286 patrons. As many know, there is a dearth of rooftop options in Arlngton (think Clarendon Ballroom and Eventide, which restricts the rooftop to diners only). So the addition of more outdoor space comes as a welcome relief, for those that want to take advantage of having a social life outside a restaurant/bar’s interior walls.

ARL.now goes onto say that the new space will serve food and there will be about 50 tables for outdoor dining. Greg Cahill, the owner, hopes to have the deck open by September.

Side note- this will be a great place to watch Arlington’s annual Mardi Gras parade. The parade, which runs from Clarendon to Courthouse, features floats, beads, music & fun!
